We went our relative’s house in Mawanella area on month of May. We stay there 2 days of time. Dewanagala Viharaya situated near to our relatives house. Therefore we visit there on 6th morning. We spent few hours there & we came with happy memories.
Dewanagala Raja Maha Viharaya
This temple’s history starts from Anuradhapura Kingdom’s time. This was very historical & important place because evidence can found in temple premises connect to “Anuradhapura” , “Polonnaruwa” & “Kandy” Kingdom’s time.
According to history first details found regard this temple during “King Dathusena”s time ( 459 – 477 ).At that time this called “Dasen Pawwa” In time of Polonnaruwa Kingdom this called “Kithsen Pawwa”. In Kandyan Kingdoms period “King Wimaladarmasooriya 1” donates to “Dewanagala Rathanalankara Sangaraja Thero” after renovation.
There was 2 “Sel Lipi” in the temple premises. You can see the remains of old “Vihara Geya” built by using stone blocks. You will find the “Tempita Viharaya” inside the “Vihara Geya”. This temple locates in very beautiful place & you can see amazing surrounding views from there.
If you can visit this place when you are passing Mawanella area is highly worth. Famous “Aluthnuwara Dewalaya” also situated very close to this temple.
