I didn’t able to go for camping or hike since my last camping trip in HP because of bad weather. Then the rain season stopped in Badulla area. So I planned to visit Namunukula and camp there. I waited for this hike for long time. On the 1st day morning my brother and I went haputhale station and took night mail train to badulla. Travelling by train better than travelling by bus so we decide travel by train. Around 8 am we went to badulla and brought some stuffs nearby grocery. Then we walk towards passara road and took bus to 3rd mile post on badulla – passara road. The journey started from there. There is road start on 3rd mile post to Deyangalla division. This will be around 10km journey. We took that road and started walk Deyangalla division. Walk to Deyangalla division with bright sunlight and continually uphill road was difficult journey. We had lot of breaks and took some shortcuts through our journey. But the scenery through our journey was spectacular. We took around 4.5 hr to reach the Deyangalla line houses.
We traveled through the tea estate until we reached the border of the forest and the tea estate. There is a clear uphill path from this point onwards. That path located on left corner of the border. We were burned by sunlight so climbing through this path was heavenly for both of us. The path covered by trees and I was cool inside. This path got steeper at some parts. Somehow we reach the camp site 1 and 1.30 pm.
It was look like popular camp site. Then walk to 2nd camp site through “Maha Rath Mal” trees. We reached out to the 2nd camp site, had a break, pitched our tent, had lunch and had small nap. The 2nd camp site located with well, but it’s not usable.
There is path near by the well it took us to open area and there was three shrines. One is for load Buddha and I was newly build shrines for old ones. We came back to camp site and went through another path located in other side of the camp site it was open area and good camping site too. I think it was the best view point of the summit. We came back to camp site and collect firewood and prepared for the night. At the night wind was bit heavy. We lit up camp fire and made our dinner and spend few hours outside while having dinner. Then went to sleep and wake around 5.30 am watched the sunrise. Around 8.30 we had breakfast, cleaned up the camp site and started to descend towards Spring Valley. There is foot path on left side located in other side of the summit (Not the shrines located side). We took that path and climbed down through the woods and ended up in tea state in Spring Valley side. If someone wants to climb through this path it will be difficult because it is steep ascending. Then we came to demodara through Spring Valley and took bus to home. This trip was the most painful walk ever had.
